2,000-Year-Old Mask Unearthed in Ancient Mexican Pyramid

In 2011, archaeologists discovered an intricately carved green mask

during an excavation at the Pyramid of the Sun in Teotihuacan.

Believed to represent a significant figure, the mask was likely

part of a dedication ritual marking the pyramid’s construction. Found ,

alongsideceremonial offerings,it highlights the spiritual practices

of Teotihuacan, a mysterious ancient city that thrived between 100 BCE

and 600 CE.The mask’s lifelike detail and historical significance contrast

with its playful comparisons to the 1994 film The Mask. Beyond the humor,

it stands as a testament to Teotihuacan’s artistry and cultural legacy,

deepening the intrigue around this influential civilization.
