Homeless man arrested on suspicion of arson near LA’s Kenneth Fire after being detained by residents with a ‘flamethrower’

A homeless man was arrested on suspicion of arson after allegedly using a flamethrower to start fires near the Kenneth Fire in Los Angeles. On Thursday afternoon, in Woodland Hills, the man was seen setting old Christmas trees and trash cans on fire. Local residents, witnessing the act, quickly intervened, cornering the man as he tried to flee on a bicycle. Some restrained him with zip ties and rope until authorities arrived.

While LAPD investigated the Kenneth Fire as a possible arson, the man was only arrested for a felony parole violation, as there was insufficient evidence for arson charges. The Kenneth Fire continues to burn, consuming 960 acres with no containment as of Friday.
