Wish list written by a foster child in Oklahoma

Dreamcatchers for Abused Children, a dedicated non-profit organization working to improve the lives of children affected by abuse, recently shared a touching story that has deeply resonated with many. The story involves a foster child from Oklahoma who, after enduring severe abuse from his alcoholic parents, was rescued thanks to the intervention of a concerned neighbor who reported the situation to social services.

Once removed from the abusive environment, the child was placed under the care of Dreamcatchers for Abused Children. The organization, committed to giving children the hope and care they deserve, worked diligently to find the boy a loving and supportive home. When he learned he would soon be placed with a forever family, the child created a simple yet heartbreaking wish list of things he hoped for in his new life.

This wish list, which reflects the basic desires of a child looking for safety and love, highlights the deep emotional scars left by his traumatic past. It serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of fostering compassion and support for children who have been through such harrowing experiences.

The list consisted of basic needs—things every child should have but were tragically missing from his previous life:

Food and water

Protection from physical abuse

A home with running water and electricity

Love and no fighting between parents

A safe environment free from drugs and violence

Help with education

Clean, appropriate clothing

A clean and secure place to live

A sense of fairness, where his belongings aren’t taken away

A television for entertainment

Basic hygiene items like a comb, soap, and a toothbrush

This heart-wrenching list is a sobering reminder that many children endure unimaginable hardships and are deprived of even the most basic necessities. It calls on us to reflect on the blessings we often take for granted and to extend our compassion and support to those who need it most.

By sharing this story, we can raise awareness and foster empathy for children in vulnerable situations.
