When my girlfriend Lily told me she was out having coffee with her best friend Rosie,
I didn’t suspect anything. But at that very moment, Rosie was with me, helping pick out
a proposal ring. After four years together, I thought I knew Lily completely, yet suddenly I felt like a stranger. That message was my first warning sign.
Rosie looked uneasy and pale when I jokingly asked if Lily was seeing someone else.
Later, Lily ignored my calls, which was unlike her, and when she finally came home,
she seemed nervous and distracted. I overheard her whisper on the phone, “He doesn’t know yet.” My heart dropped, and suspicion crept in.
The following day, I noticed strange charges for pet supplies on our shared credit card.
Since Lily disliked reptiles and pets, it didn’t make sense. I lay awake, confused about what was happening.
When I confronted her, she surprised me with a gorgeous terrarium and a Kenyan sand boa named Bowie.
