Actor And Singer Passes Away At 80

David Soul, ‘Starsky and Hutch’ Star, Dies at 80

David Soul, best known for playing Detective Ken “Hutch” Hutchinson in the hit 1970s TV series Starsky

and Hutch (1975–1979), has died at age 80. He reprised his iconic role in the 2004 film adaptation Starsky & Hutch.

While Hutch made him a household name, Soul’s career extended far beyond. His acting credits include Magnum Force,

Murder, She Wrote, The Yellow Rose, Unsub, Secret of the Sahara, and Jerry Springer: The Opera. He also had a brief musical

career and was discovered at 24 while performing in a revue in North Dakota.

His wife, Helen Snell, confirmed his passing on January 4, 2024, calling him a beloved husband, father, and friend.

She praised his warmth, talent, and enduring spirit, saying he died peacefully, surrounded by family.

Soul was married five times and had six children. He and Snell married in 2010 and remained together until his death.

Though the family did not share an official cause of death, The Washington Post reported he had been battling lung cancer and COPD.

Fans continue to celebrate his legacy through his memorable performances—especially as “Hutch,” the calm, steady counterpart to Starsky’s fire.
