Trey Gowdy Announces Significant Career Move That Surprises Supporters

From real-life courtrooms to the pages of a psychological crime thriller, Trey Gowdy is bringing his extensive legal experience to readers in a fresh, compelling way. The Fox News host and former prosecutor recently announced his debut fiction release, The Color of Death, set to launch on August 26. Preorders are available now. “I lived it,” Gowdy told FOX & Friends. “I lived it for almost two decades.” FOX News Books’ First Fiction Release – The Color of Death is not only Gowdy’s first novel, but also the first fiction book from FOX News Books. Co-written with Wall Street Journal bestselling author Christopher Greyson, the story immerses readers in the high-stakes world of murder prosecution.

“Throughout my years as a prosecutor, I’ve learned that those who do this work best don’t just argue cases—they endure the fear, anger, pain, and loss experienced by victims,” Gowdy explained. Inside The Color of Death: A Dark and Psychological Mystery – The novel follows Assistant District Attorney Colm Truesdale, a man haunted by the loss of his wife and daughter. After stepping away from work, Truesdale returns to investigate the murder of a young salon owner.

From a missing appointment book page to a fire-damaged crime scene, the investigation spirals into a complex web involving a powerful judge and his family. “Yes, it’s a whodunit,” Gowdy said. “But it’s also about the psychology of what death does to people.”

From Prosecutor to Author – Before his eight-year tenure in Congress, Gowdy served nearly two decades as a state and federal prosecutor in South Carolina. He handled thousands of criminal cases and took almost 100 to jury verdict, including seven death penalty trials. “I want readers to feel in the driver’s seat with me—from the moment a murder happens until the verdict is delivered,” he said. Currently, Gowdy hosts Sunday Night in America on Fox News Channel and The Trey Gowdy Podcast on FOX News Audio.

About Co-Author Christopher Greyson – Gowdy partnered with Christopher Greyson, a renowned author in mystery, action, and thriller genres. Greyson ranks among the top 100 Kindle authors of all time, with over 3.5 million books sold. FOX News Books Expands Into Fiction – Launched in 2020, FOX News Books has sold over three million copies. The Color of Death will be its 16th title and its first fiction release beyond memoir and non-fiction. The novel is available for preorder ahead of its official release on August 26.
