Woman ditches ‘traditional living’ building herself an incredible tiny home on wheels for just $9K

Rita Marie Carr’s story is one of transformation and self-discovery.

Living in the bustling city of Denver, Colorado, she was deeply entrenched in the corporate world, working diligently for an engineering firm.

The high-rise apartment she called home and the daily office grind seemed like the only path.

However, life had other plans for her.

When Rita began working remotely, she took the bold step of living in her Wrangler Jeep.

This experience was a revelation.

The freedom of the open road, the ever-changing landscapes, and the ability to work from anywhere made her question her previous lifestyle.

It was during this phase that she stumbled upon the idea of a more permanent mobile home.

Enter Wilbur, a delightful pink Ford minibus that Rita decided to purchase.

Over the course of three years, with a budget of around $9,000, she transformed this vehicle into a cozy, personalized living space.

Resourcefulness was key—Rita upcycled materials and scoured deals to make her vision come to life.

Wilbur’s multiple doors are not just functional but symbolic of Rita’s many adventures.

After a mishap where the original doors couldn’t withstand a high-speed journey, Rita opted for glass panel doors.

These not only added a touch of modernity but also blurred the lines between indoor and outdoor living.

And then there’s the special side door, leading to a unique feature…

Rita’s outdoor shower is proof of her love for nature.

“There’s something magical about showering under the open sky,” she often remarks.

Whether she’s parked at a scenic campsite or finds a secluded spot in the wilderness, her simple yet effective shower setup offers a refreshing experience.

Rita’s interior design choices reflect her artistic soul.

Dominating her living space is a mini art studio, a sanctuary where she immerses herself in her art.

While the Jeep offered freedom, it lacked space for her creative pursuits.

Now, with Wilbur, she has room to paint, create, and let her artworks dry—embracing the inevitable paint splatters as badges of honor.

Efficiency is key in a tiny home.

Rita’s living area serves a dual purpose.

By day, it’s a cozy lounge area, and by night, it transforms into a snug bedroom for her and her two dogs.

The couch, strategically placed by the side door, offers breathtaking views, making sunrise and sunset moments to cherish.

Every corner of Rita’s kitchen tells a story.

From the two-burner stove to the hammock holding fresh produce, it’s a blend of functionality and artistry.

But the standout feature is her innovative sink.

Ditching the traditional faucet setup that proved problematic, Rita introduced a transparent glass jar and a rustic bucket, combining utility with a touch of nostalgia.

While Wilbur is her home, the Wrangler Jeep remains an integral part of Rita’s journey.

Whether she’s embarking on short explorations, fetching supplies, or seeking off-road thrills, the Jeep is her trusty sidekick.
