Pam Bondi, President-elect Donald Trump’s pick for attorney general,
had a viral moment during her Senate confirmation hearing when she was
questioned by Louisiana GOP Sen. John Kennedy about the importance of removing
“politicization” from the Department of Justice. Kennedy asked about Michael Avenatti,
once a prominent media figure and attorney who regularly criticized Trump. “Do you know where Mr.
Avenatti is today?” he inquired. “Prison, senator,” Bondi replied with a smile. Kennedy then
pivoted to Sam Bankman-Fried, the disgraced entrepreneur. “Where is Mr. Bankman-Fried today?”
he asked. Bondi answered, “Jail.” Kennedy criticized the Justice Department’s decision
to prosecute Trump, claiming that a minority within the department had “delegitimized
America’s criminal justice system.” Bondi called for an end to the politicization
of the department, asserting, “Politics has to be taken out of this system
