The United States women\u2019s national team\u2019s relationship with the national anthem has become complicated over the years. In the past, some members of the team have taken a knee as the song played prior to the kickoff of a match.<\/p>\n
But, when the USWNT lined up on the field prior to the start of their opening 2023 FIFA Women\u2019s World Cup match against Vietnam, the majority of the team stood during the playing of \u201cStar Spangled Banner,\u201d although most of the players seemed to remain silent.<\/p>\n
The entire opposing team appeared to passionately sing as Vietnam\u2019s national anthem \u201cTi\u1ebfn Qu\u00e2n Ca,\u201d or \u201cSong of a Marching Army\u201d was played.
