<\/p>\nNext month will mark six years since the world lost one of the greatest musicians of his time. Prince was found now alive at his Paisley Park home in Minneapolis, in April 2016; he was 57 years old.<\/p>\n
During his life he was not only one of the most prolific singer songwriters and musicians but also collaborated with many stars.<\/p>\n
One such star was Fleetwood Mac\u2019s very own Stevie Nicks who recently opened up about their relationship saying the iconic star once warned her about her substance use.<\/p>\n
The two worked together in the early 80s and their musical collaboration turned into a \u201ca really amazing relationship.\u201d At one point the now 73-year-old said she was flattered to find he was \u201cputting the moves on her.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cPrince and I were just friends,\u201d Nicks told Harper\u2019s Bazaar. \u201cI think he would have been happy to have had a relationship.\u201d<\/p>\n
While Nicks was on her way to her honeymoon with now ex-husband Kim Anderson, she heard Prince\u2018s \u201cLittle Red Corvette\u201d and immediately started created her own version.<\/p>\n
\u201cAll of a sudden, out of nowhere, I\u2019m singing along, going, \u2018Stand back!\u2019\u201d Nicks recalled to Uncle Joe Benson on the Ultimate Classic Rock Nights radio show. \u201cI\u2019m like, \u2019Kim, pull over! We need to buy a tape recorder because I need to record this.\u2019 And so we do \u2013 we careen off the freeway to find a radio, record shop or something, and we go in and we buy a little tape recorder.\u201d<\/p>\n
She spent the night working on a song that would end up becoming the lead single from Nicks\u2019 1983 solo album \u201cThe Wild Heart\u201d and the single went to No. 5 in the U.S. Billboard Top 100.<\/p>\n
After writing her song \u2018Stand Back\u201d she asked for a meeting with Prince and 20 minutes later they were introduced to each other for the first time in a studio in Los Angeles.<\/p>\n
Nicks said Prince listened to her song, inspired by his \u201cLittle Red Corvette\u201d classic and went straight over to the keyboard to start adding his own parts.<\/p>\n
He then got up, gave her a hug and left.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe spoiled me for every band I\u2019ve ever had because nobody can exactly re-create \u2014 not even with two piano players \u2014what Prince did all by his little self,\u201d she said in the book \u201cRock Lives.\u201d<\/p>\n
Nicks said as much as she admired Prince, she avoided a romantic relationship with him because she appreciated their musical connection.<\/p>\n
\u201cI really wanted a musical relationship, and I had smartened up, even then,\u201d she explained. \u201cYou\u2019ll break up and never speak again. But he wasn\u2019t interested in just that.\u201d<\/p>\n
In turn, Prince\u2019s \u201cWhen Doves Cry\u201d was inspired by Nicks\u2019 song \u201cEdge of Seventeen.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Fleetwood Mac star said that she was heavily into substances when she collaborated with Prince.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe eighties were pretty bad substance years for me,\u201d Stevie Nicks told The New Yorker. \u201cAnd Prince was not very into drugs. And the fact that he ended up being on a lot of pain medication just blows my mind, because he was so against it, and he gave me so many lectures about it.\u201d<\/p>\n
The \u201cGypsy\u201d singer said Prince warned her about her substance use. \u201cI\u2019d talk to him every once in a while on the phone, and we\u2019d talk for hours, and he\u2019d go, \u2018You gotta be careful, Stevie.\u2019 And I\u2019d go, \u2018I know, I know.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
Following his passing Nicks said, \u201cMy sadness is that he passed of an accidental overdose. He\u2019s up there looking down, saying to me, \u2018Sweetie, I can\u2019t believe it happened either.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
It seems Prince was right to be worried at the time as Nicks ended up in rehab twice. The singer checked into the Betty Ford clinic in 1986 for her addiction, and then went to another hospital in 1993 for her addiction to Klonopin, which Nicks said she was over-prescribed.<\/p>\n
But in 1986, Nicks spoke to a plastic surgeon about her nose. The doctor told her she had burned a coin-sized hole in her nose from her substance abuse.<\/p>\n
\u201cI said, \u2018What do you think about my nose?\u2019\u201d the singer recalled. \u201cAnd he said, \u2018Well, I think the next time you do a hit, you could drop.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Following her conversation with the doctor, Nicks decided to check into the Betty Ford clinic. The move helped turn her life around and arguably saved her career and her life.<\/p>\n
Thank goodness she had a conversation that set her on the right path. It sounds like it came at just the right time.<\/p>\n
It is, however, a tragedy that Prince couldn\u2019t get off the harmful opioids that he was on. Nicks\u2019 story just confirms the musical genius he really was and how generous he was with his talent.<\/p>\n
