In 2010, Sandra Bullock received a phone call that changed her life forever. \u201cYour placement is here,\u201d said the voice on the other end.<\/p>\n
A few weeks later, she was on a stage, accepting her first Oscar for her appearance in The Blind Side, but she didn\u2019t care she was there. \u201cAll I wanted was to go was just go home and feed Lou\u201d she said of her newborn, whom she had been waiting for years to arrive.<\/p>\n

In 2005, after Hurricane Katrina devastated Louisiana by flooding its grounds, Sandra Bullock had a feeling that inspired her decision to adopt a child.<\/p>\n
\u201cKatrina happened in New Orleans, and something told me, \u2018My child is there.\u2019 It was weird,\u201d Bullock said in an interview with Today\u2019s Hoda Kotb.<\/p>\n
Years later, in January 2010, Bullock received the call she had been waiting years to receive.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe was unexpected, he was not planned. I got a call one day, \u2018Your placement is here,\u2019 and that\u2019s after years after having filed it, years,\u201d the 59-year-old star of Speed tells CBS News.<\/p>\n
Gushing over Louis Bardo Bullock, the three-month-old boy from New Orleans she secretly adopted in 2010, Bullock said, \u201cI looked at him like, \u2018Oh, there you are.\u2019 It was like he had always been there,\u201d she recalled. \u201cHe fit in the crook of my arm. He looked me in the eyes. He was wise. My child was wise.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Miss Congeniality star adds, \u201cThe beautiful thing that I was constantly told was, \u2018The perfect child will find you. You will find your child.\u2019 But you don\u2019t believe that when it\u2019s not happening. When you\u2019re going, \u2018Where is my family?\u2019 When it does happen, you know exactly what they\u2019re talking about.\u201d<\/p>\n
Weeks after Lou arrived, Bullock was on stage at the Kodiak Theatre, accepting her first Oscar for her starring role in the film, The Blind Side.<\/p>\n
But Lou owned her center stage and she wanted to be at home, with him.<\/p>\n
\u201cAll I kept thinking about was, \u2018He\u2019s at home.\u2019 Like, I didn\u2019t care. I didn\u2019t care that I was there, I just wanted to go home. And then I was sewn in the dress. I was sewn in the dress, and I had to get myself out of the dress, but all I wanted to do was just go home and feed Lou.\u201d<\/p>\n
Only days after, her marriage to reality star Jesse James came crashing down and Bullock became a single mother to an infant.<\/p>\n
Bullock said, \u201cI mean, so much had happened. How do you process grief and not hurt your child in the process? It\u2019s a newborn, they take on everything that you\u2019re feeling. So, my obligation was to [Lou] and not tainting the first year of his life with my grief.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u2018Louis\u2019 got the stage\u2019
\n\u201cNo one understands the shift in priorities about having a child in your life \u2026 until you have a child in your life,\u201d Bullock said of shifting her focus from career to mom. \u201cIt naturally shifts\u2026he showed up and now, Louis\u2019 got the stage.\u201d<\/p>\n
Growing up in a healthy, happy environment, little Lou one day looked up at mom and predicted \u201cI\u2019m going to have a baby soon.\u201d<\/p>\n
Though Bullock admits she wasn\u2019t planning on growing her family, she listened to her son, who planted the seed.<\/p>\n
\u201cI realized at that time, maybe he knew something. And when I think about it, it would have been around the time that Laila was born,\u201d Bullock said. \u201cIt\u2019s Louis\u2019 way. Louis has a very strong way. He\u2019s a fine leader, and he led me to Lai.\u201d<\/p>\n
Laila, who was living in foster care in Louisiana, is her daughter who joined the family in 2015 when she was three.<\/p>\n
Recalling Laila\u2019s trauma from being in childcare, the Ocean\u2019s 8 star said, \u201cShe\u2019d be in the closet with all her clothes on, she\u2019d be on a bookshelf, she\u2019d be hiding, she\u2019d always be ready to leave,\u201d the actress recalled of her daughter, adding that she always made sure Laila knew that she wasn\u2019t \u201cgoing anywhere.\u201d<\/p>\n
She then shared a conversation she had about Laila with Bryan Randall, the father figure to her children, and her partner from 2015 until ALS claimed his life in 2023. She said, \u201cMy partner said to me, \u2018When she\u2019s been with us longer than she hasn\u2019t been, I have a feeling we\u2019re going to see a change.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
He was right. Recently, Bullock described Laila as \u201cunafraid.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cShe\u2019s a fighter, and that\u2019s the reason she\u2019s here today. She fought to keep her spirit intact. Oh my God, what she is going to accomplish. She\u2019s going to bring some real change.\u201d<\/p>\n
Lou, now 13, \u201cis super sensitive\u2026He\u2019s wise and kind,\u201d the Bird Box star tells People. \u201cI saw that when they handed him to me. There was a spiritual bigness to him.\u201d<\/p>\n
Though fans will be disappointed, the versatile actor is scaling back her work schedule to again be a single mother.<\/p>\n
Bullock last appeared in 2022\u2019s The Lost City with Channing Tatum and Bullet Train with Brad Pitt.<\/p>\n
