{"id":1924,"date":"2023-08-23T11:20:30","date_gmt":"2023-08-23T11:20:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/usapress.info\/?p=1924"},"modified":"2023-08-23T11:20:30","modified_gmt":"2023-08-23T11:20:30","slug":"after-painful-loss-82-year-old-widow-adopted-by-family-of-7-next-door-says-they-feel-like-home","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/usapress.info\/?p=1924","title":{"rendered":"After painful loss, 82-year-old widow \u2018adopted\u2019 by family of 7 next door says they feel like home"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last year, Sharaine Caraballo and her husband, Wilson, bought their first home in Pawtucket, Rhode Island and moved their five children from Texas to the small city, that has a population of less than 75,000.<\/p>\n<p>Not sure what to expect of the new neighborhood Sharaine, 32, said her and Wilson, 42, feared how their active, oftentimes noisy children would be received.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c\u2018What if our neighbors don\u2019t like us?\u2019 What if, because we have a lot of kids, they make a lot of noise and we come from a big family, what if there\u2019s any conflict with the neighbors?\u201d Sharaine said.<\/p>\n<p>Her concerns were quickly eased by a knock on the door.<\/p>\n<p><iframe id=\"instagram-embed-0\" class=\"instagram-media instagram-media-rendered\" src=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/CMCbxSTBupJ\/embed\/captioned\/?cr=1&amp;v=14&amp;wp=640&amp;rd=https%3A%2F%2Fen.newsner.com&amp;rp=%2Fnews%2Fafter-painful-loss-82-year-old-widow-adopted-by-family-of-7-next-door-says-they-feel-like-home%2F%3Futm_source%3DMtest%26utm_medium%3DMmobile%26utm_campaign%3DMcampaign%26fbclid%3DIwAR2qs9hf0ANDOL8DuYsdEnVGi3VGAj#%7B%22ci%22%3A0%2C%22os%22%3A2387.3000000715256%7D\" height=\"1168\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-instgrm-payload-id=\"instagram-media-payload-0\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Waiting on the other side was Paul Callahan, an 82-year-old handyman, who carrying a ladder, offered to help the family fix things around their newly purchased home.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne of my biggest fears was meeting our new neighbors. I was wondering who they were going to be and what they were going to be like,\u201d Sharaine said. \u201cWhen Paul welcomed us into the neighborhood I knew I had made the right choice.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Shortly after meeting the couple learned Paul had recently become widowed, his wife dying only six months before the Caraballos arrived.<\/p>\n<p>Paul, who loves the energy of the children and the big family, said: \u201cIt reminds me of when we, my wife and I, first started. There\u2019s just something about this family that makes me feel at home.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Touched by his goodwill, Paul was \u201cadopted\u201d by the Caraballos, becoming \u201cUncle Paul\u201d to the parents and a grandad to the five children, who love the man to pieces.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe was coming over with tools. He\u2019d bring screwdrivers and teach Wilson how to fix up the garage, and Wilson followed all his advice.\u201d Sharaine said, adding that Paul is no longer just a neighbor. The man, who\u2019s \u201cgot stories for days,\u201d is part of the family and is invited to every family dinner, cookout and holiday gathering.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe kids run up to him like that\u2019s their grandfather. Paul is definitely a family member. He\u2019s no longer considered a neighbor,\u201d Sharaine said of the man, who spends nearly every day with the family.<\/p>\n<p>In March, 2023, Sharaine posted a heartwarming video on Facebook, boasting about Paul on a \u201cRandom neighbor appreciation post.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><iframe id=\"instagram-embed-1\" class=\"instagram-media instagram-media-rendered\" src=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/reel\/CrCINpaNCcG\/embed\/captioned\/?cr=1&amp;v=14&amp;wp=640&amp;rd=https%3A%2F%2Fen.newsner.com&amp;rp=%2Fnews%2Fafter-painful-loss-82-year-old-widow-adopted-by-family-of-7-next-door-says-they-feel-like-home%2F%3Futm_source%3DMtest%26utm_medium%3DMmobile%26utm_campaign%3DMcampaign%26fbclid%3DIwAR2qs9hf0ANDOL8DuYsdEnVGi3VGAj#%7B%22ci%22%3A1%2C%22os%22%3A2390.5%7D\" height=\"1166\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-instgrm-payload-id=\"instagram-media-payload-1\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Attaching an emotional video of Callahan with her children, Sharaine writes, \u201cMy family &amp; I purchased our home last February. My biggest fear was not knowing how [our] neighbors are (I watch a lot of \u201cneighbor war\u201d shows). God blessed my family with having a neighbor like Paul. He comes over and hangs out with our family. [Educates] my husband on different tools. Leaves donuts every Saturday for the kids.\u201d She continued, \u201cBought the kids bags full of brand new socks, gloves, &amp; hats for the winter. Comes to the cookouts in the summer &amp; just brings overall joy to our family. My family and I adopted him as \u201cuncle Paul.\u201d There are definitely good neighbors out here but we got the best one.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Netizens jumped in with comments and praised the Carraballos and Paul for developing such a deep, mutually beneficial connection. \u201cMy heart. I\u2019m crying at each video. They don\u2019t make people like him anymore and I\u2019m so glad your babies get to experience him and that he has y\u2019all to keep him young, happy, and alive. I bet he lives for every moment with y\u2019all. I wish my grandma had neighbors like y\u2019all.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A second writes, \u201cI hope this man lives to see so many more years I don\u2019t even know him &amp; love his spirit,\u201d while a third shares, \u201cI BET y\u2019all are the highlight of his life! I just keep crying!! So so beautiful.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>One notices Paul pulling out his teeth and showing the kids: \u201cIs that him taking his teeth out? As a kid I had an \u2018uncle\u2019 who did that and I thought it was the best thing ever!
