<\/p>\nKathy Bates got a lot of attention at the Golden Globes, as did many other actors who were there to cheer on others and to show up on the red carpet. She is also someone who had a nice surprise for us.<\/p>\n
One of the reasons why Kathy Bates was at the Golden Globes was because of her role in Matlock. She was nominated for best performance by a female actor in a television series drama, so she was there for a great reason.<\/p>\n

When she stepped out on the red carpet, however, she really took people\u2019s attention. Not only did she have on a fantastic looking beaded dinner jacket with black tuxedo pants, but she showed off her weight loss of some 100 pounds.<\/p>\n
Earlier in 2024, Kathy Bates spoke about her weight loss journey as it has been ongoing for a few years. She lost about 100 pounds after she was diagnosed with type II diabetes in 2017.<\/p>\n
She said: \u201cIt runs in my family, and I\u2019ve seen what my father had gone through. He had a leg amputation\u2026 One of my sisters is dealing with it very seriously. It terrified me, and it just scared me straight and I thought, \u2018I\u2019ve got to do something\u2019.<\/p>\n
\u201cGetting diagnosed with diabetes doesn\u2019t mean you have to give up your favorite foods, but it can definitely help to be mindful of your overall eating pattern.\u201d<\/p>\n
In an interview, she also said that she had focused on her health over the past couple of years, and is almost down to what she weighed in college. She went on to say: \u201cThe confluence of my being healthy and then the show coming along was just serendipity. I\u2019m in good shape. I can walk, I can breathe, whereas before on different shows, I had to sit down every two to three minutes.<\/p>\n

\u201cA woman my age would never have such a role. Never. And the complexity of the role and the writing, I pinch myself every day.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ve only been interested in doing the best work I can possibly do. And I think, as I said earlier, to be able to bring all those facets that I\u2019ve learned from doing all those different kinds of roles into this, I\u2019m glad I stuck around for it.\u201d<\/p>\n
Although she would not win the award, as it went to Anna Sawai for her work on Shogun, she did manage to capture little attention. Apparently, she had written down an acceptance speech in case she won and she playfully tore it up after she lost.<\/p>\n
