According to Denzel Washington, who met his wife Pauletta on the set of a TV movie in 1977, \u201cThere is no secret to the perfect marriage.\u201d<\/p>\n
The award-winning actor Denzel Washington is an icon in Hollywood.
\nBorn in Mount Vernon, New York, on December 28, 1954, he\u2019s also a doting dad to four children whom he shares with his wife of nearly four decades, Pauletta.<\/p>\n
To Denzel, his children and wife mean everything, but his childhood was far from the family life he\u2019s enjoying now.<\/p>\n
\u201cMy parents were like night and day. She\u2019s urban, raised in Harlem. My father was just this spirit-filled man until the day he died, a country boy raised on a farm in Virginia,\u201d Denzel shared.<\/p>\n
\u201cEverybody has their ups and downs; we\u2019ve had ours. It\u2019s hard work, you know. But we made a commitment. A spiritual foundation helps everything \u2013 marriage, work, peace of mind.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThe first movie I ever did \u2014 TV movie \u2014 was about Wilma Rudolph and I played Wilma Rudolph\u2019s boyfriend,\u201d the celebrated actor said on Live with Kelly and Ryan in 2018. \u201cPauletta was one of the track stars,\u201d he said. \u201cI met her then, but I didn\u2019t meet her then. I saw her then.\u201d<\/p>\n

Denzel and Pauletta first crossed paths in 1977 on the set of Wilma.<\/p>\n
Although the two have varying accounts of how exactly they ended up at the same place at the same time, nonetheless Denzel and Pauletta ended up at the same event and they hit it off.<\/p>\n
As the couple\u2019s careers grew, so did their relationship.
\nEventually, Denzel wanted to take the next step with Pauletta, but she seemed hesitant. Denzel proposed three times before Pauletta accepted.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was three times. I know with age sometimes things [go], the mind,\u201d she told Access Hollywood in 2013. \u201cI turned you down twice and the third time we did it.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cYou heard it here first: She turned me down, she said no. And since it was three times, that means she turned me down twice,\u201d Denzel responded.<\/p>\n
