I was horrible at being a dad. I had to get my s\u2013t together,\u201d Brooks told Billboard.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">While being in the spotlight for years, the 61-year-old admitted he wasn\u2019t making positive headlines early on in his career, saying he would\u2019ve had a tough time being in the public eye if social media had existed back then.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">\u201cI was on the front page of the USA Today for being a bad husband and man,\u201d Brooks recalled. \u201cI\u2019d have never survived that if there had been social media, ever.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">After being married for nearly two decades to Trisha Yearwood, 58, the singer-songwriter shared the secret to their lasting relationship.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">\u201c\u2026 I will tell you this, the person you\u2019re with [does make] a huge difference in your life,\u201d he remarked.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">The country music superstars have been married since 2005, and Yearwood is a \u201cbonus mom\u201d to Brooks\u2019 three children, Taylor, August and Allie, from his marriage to Sandy Mahl.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">Yearwood revealed that Brooks was \u201cflirting pretty hard\u201d with her over text before they walked the red carpet at the\u00a0<span class=\"s1\">ACM Awards <\/span>in May.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">The \u201cShe\u2019s in Love With the Boy\u201d songstress added their relationship is \u201calways a first date, you know? It just really is.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s2\">Brooks praised his wife when asked why he thinks their relationship has lasted so long. \u201cCome on, you can see why I\u2019m in love with her,\u201d he told E!
