<\/p>\nKevin Sorbo has sparked outrage after complaining that Hollywood men aren\u2019t \u201cmanly\u201d anymore.<\/p>\n
The 65-year-old actor \u2013 who is known for starring in 1995\u2019s Hercules: The Legendary Journeys \u2013 claimed in an op-ed for Fox News that there has been an \u201canti-men\u201d campaign pervading the American film industry in the last 20 years.<\/p>\n

In the article titled \u201cLet\u2019s make Hollywood manly again,\u201d Sorbo used a line from 2004\u2019s The Incredibles to make his point, writing: \u201cElastigirl says \u2018Leave the saving of the world to the men? I don\u2019t think so,\u201d explaining that this \u201cunderlies every major entry for cinema\u2019s largest metonym\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cEverywhere we look, bold, confident, self-assured females upstage passive men who recede quietly into the background. Into the basement. Into the past,\u201d he said, alleging that fathers have become the \u201cbutt of every woke Hollywood jab [as] the bumbling, useless idiots who contribute nothing to their families or communities\u201d.<\/p>\n
Many moviegoers would argue that superhero movies from the Marvel and DC Universe that feature very masculine men have dominated the industry for the past decade.<\/p>\n
However, that isn\u2019t the Andromeda star\u2019s belief as he bizarrely contended that he wants to see more \u201cmen we\u2019d want our sons to emulate and daughters to date\u201d on our screens.<\/p>\n

Sorbo then went on to state that \u201csociety today seriously misunderstands masculinity,\u201d pointing out that \u201con the one hand, we love to normalize androgynous, Billy Porter-type men who sport skirts and poofy dresses\u201d.<\/p>\n
He also took aim at British GQ\u2019s best-dressed actor Timoth\u00e9e Chalamet, strangely saying that he sports outfits that \u201cyour grandfather\u201d wouldn\u2019t have been caught in before making a transphobic point about Dylan Mulvaney.<\/p>\n
The Xena: Warrior Princess actress spoke about other factors that he believes are the reason why Hollywood men aren\u2019t \u201cmanly anymore,\u201d such as \u201calcohol, drugs, video games, p**n, and other entertainment.\u201d He didn\u2019t, however, use any evidence to back any of that up.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn reality, America today needs warriors; protectors; responsible and committed fathers,\u201d he penned. \u201cWe need men who will raise their kids, defend their homes, provide for their families, and serve self-sacrificially \u2013 all of which is impossible if they are dissipated and addicted to pleasure.\u201d<\/p>\n
Sorbo continued that boys \u201cneed heroes\u201d and that\u2019s why Hollywood should illustrate that \u201cthrough the medium of filmmaking in this generation\u201d.<\/p>\n
After reading his op-ed, many users rushed to social media to slam the actor for his complaints regarding men in Hollywood.<\/p>\n
\u201cThose tough guy movie characters that swaggered hit women, or reveled in gratuitous violence were an obnoxious aspirational macho persona,\u201d one disappointed user wrote.<\/p>\n
Another angry user added: \u201cOk, so kind, caring, intelligent men frighten y\u2019all?! I know of a whole lot of men who have those gentler qualities because they are man enough to!\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThey can back their play, and are just as masculine as the next guy, they\u2019ve simply grown out of the toxic part of our society\u2019s version of masculinity,\u201d they continued. \u201cSo, what y\u2019all are really saying when you support absurd posts like this is that you aren\u2019t able to grow into, or appreciate true, non-toxic masculinity, period.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cMen who, above all, have overcome their own selfish desires and are free to put others first,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
