Greenland responded to the statement by Donald Trump that The United States will acquire their territory \u201cone way or another,\u201d with their Prime Minister, M\u00fate Bourup Egede, writing \u201cKalaallit Nunaat is ours,\u201d using Greenlandic for the \u201cLand of People\u201d or the \u201cLand of Greenlanders,\u201d as per\u00a0AP.<\/em><\/p>\n

Egede\u00a0added: \u201cWe don\u2019t want to be Americans, nor Danes; we are Kalaallit. The Americans and their leader must understand that. We are not for sale and cannot simply be taken. Our future will be decided by us in Greenland.\u201d<\/p>\n

His response, which was initially written in Greenlandic and Danish before being updated to include English, came following Trump\u2019s message to the people of Greenland delivered on March 4.<\/p>\n

Addressing the Congress, the POTUS said, \u201cIf you choose, we welcome you into the United States of America.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe need Greenland for national security and even international security.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd we\u2019re working with everybody involved to try and get it. But we need it really for international world security.\u201d<\/p>\n

Further, he said, \u201cWe strongly support your right to determine your own future, and if you choose, we welcome you into the United States of America. We will keep you safe. We will make you rich. And together we will take Greenland to heights like you have never thought possible before,\u201d before adding: \u201cAnd I think we\u2019re going to get it \u2013 one way or the other, we\u2019re going to get it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Greenland is an autonomous country within the Kingdom of Denmark on several islands including world\u2019s largest island by the same name.<\/h2>\n

It has been part of the Danish Kingdom for 800 years and is an integrated part of its country.<\/p>\n

Denmark\u2019s Foreign Minister Lars L\u00f8kke Rasmussen\u00a0said\u00a0he doesn\u2019t believe Greenlanders\u2019 wish is to separate from Denmark in order to become \u201can integrated part of America,\u201d adding that the elections in Greenland that are to take place next week should be fair and free of international intervention.<\/p>\n
