Hooker\u2019 actor James Darren dies aged 88 \u2013 rest in peace"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>TMZ report that the veteran performer passed away in his sleep at Cedars-Sinai Hospital in Los Angeles on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>Darren\u2019s cause of\u00a0death\u00a0remains unknown a the time of writing, but the actor\u2019s son, Jim Moret, reportedly told TMZ that his father was having heart issues and was a patient at Cedars-Sinai\u2019 cardiac unit.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s believed that Darren had initially gone to hospital for an aortic valve replacement, only to be judged too weak to safely undergo the procedure.<\/p>\n<p>He was subsequently sent\u00a0home, but returned to hospital a short time later.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI always thought he would pull through,\u201d his son Jim said, \u201cbecause he was so cool. He was\u00a0<em>always<\/em>\u00a0cool.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-154700\" src=\"https:\/\/dailyspire.info\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/GettyImages-516467568-scaled.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1976\" height=\"2560\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">(Original Caption) Head and shoulders photo of actor James Darren smiling. Ca. 1960s.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Darren shot to prominence as a teen idol after landing the role of surfer Moondoggie in 1959\u2019s\u00a0<em>Gidget.\u00a0<\/em>He reprised the role in the two sequels\u00a0<em>Gidget Goes Hawaiian\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0<em>Gidget Goes to Rome<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The actor also had a recurring role as police officer Jim Corrigan on\u00a0<em>T.J. Hooker<\/em>. He appeared in a total of 66 episodes across four seasons.<\/p>\n<p>Beyond acting, James also enjoyed a career as a singer and performed the theme song for\u00a0<em>Gidget<\/em>.
