and the world\u2019s heaviest venomous snake. With an almost supernatural<\/p>\n
camouflage, it blends perfectly into forest floors, hiding in plain sight among fallen leaves.<\/p>\n
Most people never see it until it\u2019s too late.<\/p>\n

Size: Up to 2 meters long<\/p>\n
Weight: As much as 8 kilograms<\/p>\n
Fangs: The longest of any snake \u2014 up to 5 cm<\/p>\n
Venom: Capable of destroying tissue and causing life-threatening clotting<\/p>\n
Temperament: Calm and motionless unless stepped on or provoked \u2014 then it strikes with deadly precision<\/p>\n
Diet: Hunts small mammals and birds, and can even swallow hedgehogs or small antelope whole<\/p>\n
Despite its power, it\u2019s not aggressive toward humans. Most bites are accidental<\/p>\n
\u2014 a step in the wrong place. And if bitten, without immediate antivenom, survival is unlikely.<\/p>\n
