When you\u2019re young, you want to explore, make your own decision, and learn how to manage your finances.Some leave for college, and some would decide to move out of their parent\u2019s house.When Matt and Linda realized their children were already teens, they decided it was time to move out and look for a more spacious home.<\/p>\n

They found one with a big backyard, and they thought they could use the space in a few years.
\nIndeed, after a few years, their two teenage daughters were old enough to move out, but they still wanted them close. So, the couple looked for container homes.<\/p>\n
They found two gorgeous containers from Alternative Living Spaces and bought two 340 square feet container home. Each one costs $60,000. If you want them fully furnished, they will cost about $70,000 per unit.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe girls can live in there but we both have aging sets of parents that are getting older and we thought, well, if we had these storage containers, we have this multi-generational setup that we could put them out there,\u201d said Matt.<\/p>\n
Matt and Linda would be able to monitor their kids, Maddie and Ashley, but still, give them the independence and privacy that they wanted.When they move out, the couple would be able to re-design the space for their aging parents.What a great investment!<\/p>\n
The couple pulled the sewer, power, and water from the house and shared it with the two container homes. By doing this, the kids won\u2019t have to worry about installing their independent systems.One of the girls, Ashley, lived in her container home for a while but soon decided to leave for college.Braedon, Maddie\u2019s friend, decided to rent the space.<\/p>\n

It was the perfect home for Braedon because he was looking for a space to live in for a short time. Instead of an apartment, the setup in Maddie\u2019s home was better.Maddie\u2019s container home has a spacious living room area with air conditioning, television, and a big sofa that can turn into a bed. Braedon\u2019s living room looks identical to Maddie\u2019s but with a dog bed and an X-Box.<\/p>\n
The kitchen at Maddie\u2019s container isn\u2019t being used because she still eats and cooks inside her parent\u2019s home. The container for the microwave had since become a display area for her caps. The kitchen on Braedon\u2019s container is complete with a microwave and storage for a few plates.Maddie\u2019s container unit has more clothes and shoes, and she was able to maximize her storage areas. Braedon\u2019s container has all his necessities, but he still has more space.<\/p>\n
When our kids start asking for independence and privacy, we become worried.Matt and Linda\u2019s idea was loved by many because they get to have the best of both worlds. They can teach their kids about independence and privacy, yet they can monitor them and assist them if they need it.<\/p>\n
