Virginia \u201cGinny\u201d Oliver, affectionately known as the \u201cLobster Lady,\u201d is a force to be reckoned with.<\/p>\n

At the age of 101, she\u2019s still actively lobstering and has no plans to retire.<\/p>\n

Born in 1920 on Claredon Street in Maine, Ginny\u2019s connection to the place remains strong.<\/p>\n

Although she doesn\u2019t reside in her birthplace, she lives in a house on the same street\u2014a home she shared with her late husband and where she raised her four children.<\/p>\n

Ginny\u2019s journey into the world of lobstering began when she was just 8 years old.<\/p>\n

Alongside her father and brother, she would catch lobsters and sardines to sell to local factories.<\/p>\n

But they always kept some of their catch for themselves.<\/p>\n

Ginny\u2019s love for lobster rolls is evident when she describes her favorite recipe:<\/p>\n

\u201cMaine lobster, a grilled bun, a little mayo, and nothing else.\u201d<\/p>\n

But Ginny\u2019s talents aren\u2019t limited to lobstering.

While collecting crabs for her son-in-law, one managed to snip her finger, leading to seven stitches.<\/p>\n

With her characteristic humor, she remarks that if not for the bone, the crab would\u2019ve taken her finger off.<\/p>\n

Beyond her personal experiences, Ginny is deeply concerned about the future of Maine\u2019s lobster industry.<\/p>\n

Lobsters constitute a whopping 82% of Maine\u2019s commercial fishing business.
\nHowever, challenges like offshore wind development, tidal changes, and overfishing threaten the industry\u2019s sustainability.<\/p>\n

Lobstermen, including Ginny, are conscious of their responsibility.<\/p>\n

They ensure that the lobsters they catch are of the right size, allowing younger ones to grow and reproduce.<\/p>\n

When asked about her retirement plans, Ginny\u2019s answer was as straightforward as her personality:<\/p>\n
