<\/p>\nA month after undergoing emergency surgery for a blocked bowel, \u201cWheel of Fortune\u201d host Pat Sajak spills the beans.<\/p>\n
In his first interview since the operation, Sajak told \u201cGood Morning America\u201d that he felt he would die moments before the surgery.<\/p>\n
In November, the game show host began to endure \u201cexcruciating\u201d agony while out for a morning stroll with his daughter. He was doubled over in pain hours later, about to enter surgery.<\/p>\n
\u201cI was lying on the bed in the fetal position,\u201d he explained. \u201cThey try to treat your pain with numerous medications. And none of it \u2013 none of it \u2013 worked.\u201d<\/p>\n
Later, he said, his physicians gave him a medicine that took away his pain.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
\u201cAll of a sudden, I wasn\u2019t thinking about the discomfort,\u201d he explained. \u201cI just got these amazing pastels and faced flowing out of it.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI could hear my wife and daughter talking in the background. They sounded a mile away but were right next to me,\u201d he explained. \u201cThey were conversing with one another. And I recall thinking, not morbidly, this must be death. This must be how death feels.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
He was concerned for his wife and children then and was saddened that they would \u201chave to cope with the fallout,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Of course, Sajak survived the procedure, and his worries about death were unfounded.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt turns out that I was merely high,\u201d he laughed.<\/p>\n
\u201cGood Morning America,\u201d said Sajak\u2019s procedure was \u201ctotally successful.\u201d<\/p>\n
He said doctors detected no underlying cause of the intestinal blockage. Therefore he doesn\u2019t need to change his lifestyle.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ve been feeling extremely terrific for several weeks,\u201d Sajak explained. \u201cI\u2019ve been back in the studio, doing shows. Even after spinning the wheel, nothing popped. So I believe that is OK.\u201d<\/p>\n
Sajak\u2019s longstanding co-host, Vanna White, stepped in to fill his shoes while he was healing. In the conversation, Sajak joked that he\u2019s concerned she\u2019ll take over as the primary host.<\/p>\n
\u201cI discovered she enjoys hosting, and I\u2019m a little nervous,\u201d he admitted.<\/p>\n
Despite his quips, Sajak appears comfortable in his role on \u201cWheel of Fortune.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m still on my guard,\u201d he remarked.<\/p>\n
