<\/p>\nFive years after her \u201ccancelation,\u201d Roseanne Barr still feels singled out \u2026 and she\u2019s still upset about it.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ve survived. I\u2019ve come out on the other side of it, finally. But it was a witch-burning,\u201d she told The Los Angeles Times. \u201cAnd it was terrifying. It was.\u201d<\/p>\n
Back in 2018, the comedian was on top of the world, as the \u201cRoseanne\u201d reboot was having wild success on ABC. Then, in the middle of the night, Roseanne typed out the tweet that would have lasting repercussions. In the tweet, she compared White House advisor Valerie Jarrett to the \u201cPlanet of the Apes\u201d movies. Amid fierce backlash, Roseanne claimed she didn\u2019t know Valerie was Black and said she was on Ambien at the time, therefore not thinking clearly.<\/p>\n

In the immediate aftermath, ABC fired her, killed off her character and rebranded \u201cRoseanne\u201d as \u201cThe Conners,\u201d which still airs.<\/p>\n
\u201cOh my God, they just hated me so badly. I had never known that they hated me like that,\u201d she said of ABC. \u201cThey hate me because I have talent, because I have an opinion. Even though \u2018Roseanne\u2019 became their number one show, they\u2019d rather not have a number one show.\u201d<\/p>\n
She says the network denied her the chance to apologize.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m the only person who\u2019s lost everything, whose life\u2019s work was stolen, stolen by people who I thought loved me. And there was silence,\u201d she told the Times. \u201cThere was no one in Hollywood really defending me publicly, except for Mo\u2019nique, who is a brave, close, dear friend.\u201d<\/p>\n
Roseanne said fellow comedians Dave Chappelle and Louis C.K weren\u2019t given the same harsh treatment she received.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey didn\u2019t do it to anyone else in Hollywood, although they always throw in Dave Chappelle and Louis C.K. Well, Louis C.K. did lose everything, but he committed an actual [offense],\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
In 2017, Louis admitted to performing sexual acts in front of female colleagues. Dave caught backlash for transphobic jokes made in a Netflix special. Both men have won Grammys since their incidents.<\/p>\n

Amid the fallout of her ousting, Roseanne has lost contact with many of her former sitcom costars.<\/p>\n
\u201cI can\u2019t know what they think or feel. I don\u2019t know why they did what they did. I\u2019m not like them. I realized that. I can\u2019t believe what they did, with all the pain that I went through to bring the show back. And it didn\u2019t faze them to murder my character, either,\u201d she shared.<\/p>\n
Although the comedy legend sounds bitter, she says she\u2019s not.<\/p>\n
\u201cI forgive everybody,\u201d she says. \u201cI started thinking that God took me out of there to save me. And once I started thinking that way, I was, like, a lot better off.\u201d<\/p>\n
